Adriano Barbieri

Bookbinder and framer

"Mine are unique pieces with a story behind them, with art in every fold of fabric, and with care in every item!"

On Giudecca, just a few steps from Ponte Lungo, there is a small bookbindery where Adriano Barbieri creates frames, covers for notebooks, diaries and photo albums, adorning them with elegant fabrics that still today come from the lagoon and end up in a thousand parts of the world. Adriano, however, was not born a bookbinder nor a framer. He was working as a clerk in a boatyard when his father, Sergio, a restorer at the State Archives of Venice, retired and decided to open, alongside Adriano's sister Manuela, his first workshop in Fondamenta S. Eufemia in 1982. Sergio was very manual and inventive, so much so that he patented a system to safely transport large sheets of precious paper; he had entered the State Archives as an usher and then became a restorer. Adriano later joined his sister and now carries on with passion the binding of books and the creation of objects with precious Venetian materials, also choosing them at "0-Km", including Fortuny fabrics present right on Giudecca for which they make products. Much appreciated on Giudecca, the Barbieri bookbinding store has an essential showcase with only a few precious pieces as most of the production is made to measure.
