Barbini is a typical Murano surname and refers to an ancient family of glassmakers, present on the island since the second half of the 16th century. They were active both in politics and in various sectors of artistic glass production, specializing in particular in the manufacture of Venetian mirrors. In the 20th century, Vincenzo Barbini's sons, in particular Nicolò, resumed the manufacturing of Venetian mirrors in Murano, which had been almost completely forgotten at the beginning of the 20th century. Nicolò reinterpreted an inestimable heritage of techniques and secrets, founding in 1927 what is today AAV Barbini, a creative workshop specialized in the art of glass decoration and engraving and in the production of Venetian mirrors, both classic and modern, as well as in the restoration of antique mirrors. The company relies on the work of three generations of experienced craftsmen and all phases of the process (design, cutting, grinding, engraving, silvering, and assembly) are performed exclusively in Murano, carried out personally by brothers Vincenzo and Giovanni Barbini and their respective children. Nicola, Marco and Giovanna, Andrea, Pietro and Filippo are always ready to experiment with new silvering and engraving techniques and to introduce new innovative machinery.
