Alessandra di Gennaro was born in Rome while Romuald Mesdagh was born in Belgium, but both studied in Spilimbergo at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, an international reference point for the training of professionals and the spreading of the art of mosaic. Both have participated in specialization courses reserved for the best students, collaborating on numerous projects in Italy and abroad, obtaining various awards. From Friuli they got the idea to move to Venice and create Artefact, an atelier for those who want to create a mosaic in their home, building, or office, or where to learn the techniques of this special ancient art. Alessandra and Romuald make custom decorations, adorning environments of all kinds and organizing seminars to approach the art of contemporary mosaic. Small groups (from four to six students per workshop with two teachers) to discover a wide variety of materials, explore techniques and experiment with textures and colors. A modern way of teaching in an intimate and engaging atmosphere with theoretical and practical lessons to understand how to mix materials, marble and glazes, on the mixture of colors, plastic supports, and the use of glue, all with specific sketches to create unique pieces, correcting mistakes as you go. Through the use of the "martelina", a traditional half-moon shaped hammer, the glass and metal mosaic tesserae are carved, a great wealth for the city of Venice. Because mosaics undoubtedly fascinate us: small and large tesserae that make up unique creations with a secular yet again contemporary flavor.
